Gibbs: I Was Told "Not Even To Acknowledge The Drone Program"
âWhen I went through the process of becoming press secretary, one of the first things they told me was, âYouâre not even to acknowledge the drone program. Youâre not even to discuss that it exists,â former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, now an MSNBC contributor, said to Chris Hayes on his weekend program "Up" on the MSNBC network.
"I would get a question like that and literally I couldnât tell you what Major [Garrett] asked, because once I figured out it was about the drone program, I realize Iâm not supposed to talk about it," Gibbs said.
"Hereâs whatâs inherently crazy about that proposition: youâre being asked a question based on reporting of a program that exists. So youâre the official government spokesperson acting as if the entire programâŠpay no attention to the man behind the curtain," he added.
