Hoyer: GOP Tactics On Debt Limit "Like Taking Your Child Hostage"
"It's somewhat like taking your child hostage and saying to somebody else, 'I'm going to shoot my child if you don't do what I want done.' You don't want to shoot your child. There's no Republican leader that wants to default on our debt, that I've talked to," House Minority Leader Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said at a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday.
"e have four days to avert a crisis that could harm our fragile recovery, cost us a credit downgrade, impose arbitrary spending cuts that will undermine our national security and slash model programs for the vulnerable. I hope the Speaker and his Republican party will be here with Democrats, working to finish the task before us in reaching an agreement to avert the fiscal cliff. Democrats are ready to work and, yes, ready to compromise. We understand we will not get it all our way. The legislative process is about compromise; democracy is about compromise," Hoyer also said.
