MSNBC Host Confronts Dem Senator About Intern With Sex Offender Status
Today, the Associated Press broke the story that an illegal immigrant, registered as a sex offender, who worked for U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), was arrested on December 6. According to the AP, The Homeland Security Department knew about the illegal immigrant, but instructed federal agents not to arrest him until after Election Day.
Menendez appeared on MSNBC this afternoon to address the matter, but left the audience more confused about the matter than before the interview. MSNBC host Tamron Hall confronted Menendez about what he knew and when did he know it.
At first, Menendez said he didn't know about the illegal immigrant until Monday. Menendez then said he didn't know until right before he came on the network and that it was his staff, not he, who knew about the arrest on Monday.
"I didn't know about the young man's status until this Monday -- actually, before I came onto this program. My staff knew about it on Monday, I didn't know about it until I came right before your program," Menendez told the MSNBC host.
"And I assume at some point you want to talk about immigration report," he quickly added after his explanation.
